The Heart of Empire MMA

Founded in March 2015, Empire MMA & Fitness was created with one clear purpose: to build more than a gym to build a community.

From day one, Empire MMA has stood on the values of discipline, hard work, respect, and togetherness. What began as a vision has grown into a training facility where individuals and families come to strengthen not only their bodies, but their confidence and character.

Empire MMA brings together martial arts and performance training under one roof — offering Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, striking arts, MMA, strength and conditioning, HIIT, and youth programs — all within a supportive, team-driven environment. Here, beginners feel welcome, experienced athletes are challenged, and kids learn skills that carry far beyond the mats.

This is a place where goals are pursued, limits are pushed, and victories are shared.

CEO/Owner

Medardo Romero "Coach Rome"

Owner and Coach of Empire Gym & Fitness, Coach Rome brings decades of real-world combat sports experience, leadership, and a results-driven mindset to the gym. His journey began over 30 years ago while serving in the United States Armed Forces, where he built his foundation in boxing, discipline, and a strong warrior mentality.

Over the past 20 years, Coach Rome has expanded his expertise through training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and mixed martial arts. His well-rounded background allows him to teach both striking and grappling using methods that build skill, confidence, and resilience.

In addition to combat sports, Coach Rome specializes in personal training and overall fitness, helping clients transform their bodies through structured workouts, accountability, and sustainable lifestyle changes. Whether the goal is fat loss, strength building, or improved conditioning, he provides personalized guidance tailored to each individual.

Known for his strong leadership and passion for developing others, Coach Rome is dedicated to helping members of all levels—from beginners to competitive fighters—reach their full potential. His mission is to build a strong, supportive community where every member grows mentally and physically.

Fight Coach

Javier Ceasar Rizo "Coach Javi"

A professional mixed martial artist recognized for his explosive fighting style, relentless pressure, and dedication to the sport. With over 20 years of experience in MMA training and competition, Javier brings high-level skill, discipline, and real fight experience to every class and athlete he works with.

His background in striking, grappling, and cage competition allows him to help students develop both technical ability and mental toughness. Known for his intensity and passion, Javier is committed to helping fighters and members of all levels build confidence, improve performance, and train with the mindset of a true competitor.

Boxing Coach

Jerry Reyes "Coach Jerry"

Florida-based boxing trainer, promoter, and owner-operator of Reyes‑Macho Time Boxing Camp, where he has dedicated more than 20 years to developing fighters and helping individuals of all levels achieve their fitness goals through boxing. Known for his deep technical knowledge, disciplined coaching style, and passion for the sport, Jerry has built a reputation for producing skilled, confident athletes both in and out of the ring.

In recognition of his lifelong contributions to boxing, Jerry was inducted into the Florida Boxing Hall of Fame in 2022. His mission is to preserve the tradition of boxing while empowering the next generation through expert training, mentorship, and a commitment to excellence.

BJJ Professor

Jerre Norton "Prof. Jerre"

Began his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey in 1995 under Kerry King, an affiliate of Hickson Gracie, where he earned his Blue Belt and developed a strong technical foundation rooted in traditional Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. In 1998, he continued his training under Eduardo "Veio" DeLima of Gracie Barra, progressing through the ranks and ultimately earning his Purple, Brown, and Black Belt.

With decades of experience on the mat, Jerre brings a deep understanding of technique, timing, and strategy to his coaching. His training reflects the influence of some of the most respected lineages in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and he is committed to preserving the art while helping students apply it effectively in both sport and self-defense.

As a coach at Empire, Jerre is known for his patient instruction, attention to detail, and ability to break down complex techniques for students of all levels. His mission is to help every student build confidence, discipline, and technical excellence while fostering a strong and supportive team environment.
